Cars in Germany's Town Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Officers reported they were contacted by a individual who found a car in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.

Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.

Officers then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials state initial examinations indicate the liquid was probably human blood.

"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; officials are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.

Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.

An important official commented the vandalism made him without words and required to be solved promptly.

"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
